Every year she's sued for stealing lyrics...Last month we announced Beyonce was sued for failure to pay for designs for her “I Am… Sasha Fierce”. “Project Runway” designer Chris, March, filed suit claiming he hadn’t been paid for his work as the tour’s “head of costumes”.
This month, in a lawsuit filed against the singer Tuesday, Abercrombie & Fitch Co has sought to preempt any fragrance launched under the name of Knowles’ alter ego, Sasha Fierce.
In its complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Columbus, Ohio, Abercrombie said it began selling its own Fierce scent in 2002 and trademarked the fragrance in 2003.
According to court documents, Knowles filed a letter-of-intent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in September 2008 for the Sasha Fierce mark in the fragrance category.
Abercrombie said its attorneys sent a cease-and-desist letter to Knowles after it became aware of her intent, but that the singer has continued to pursue the trademark.
Knowles’ attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
The singer told WWD Tuesday she would launch a fragrance with Coty Inc. early next year. The company said the product did not yet have a name.
