TOP 8 VIDEOS OF THE YEAR
1. BJORK 'WANDERLUST'.....
Bow down to this bish. Leave it to my girl to have you saying wtf and that was amazing after seeing a video. From the puppets to the landscapes to the crazy cartoonish deity....no one things a mile from the box like her. This ish had me trippin.... For me that's what an artist is.....creative, original and leaves me thinking. She's on some beyond futuristic ish. She's so in her own league she has no peers. You have to see it in 3d to get the full experience. Directed by Encyclopedia Pictura. WATCH HERE
2. SIA "SOON WE'LL BE FOUND"....
Leave it to the Australian native to make sign language interesting. Mixed with shadow puppets and fluorescent latex, Sia provides one of the most creative efforts this year. Directed by Claire Carre. WATCH HERE
3. GNARLS BARKLEY 'GOING ON' ....
I liked 'who's gonna save your soul,' which was critically acclaimed for them, but I felt like I could see that in any documentary. The video for "Going On" however took me somewhere....it led me on a journey and left it for interpretation. It had me thinking of issues involving african culture, cultural retention, etc. And then it led to this doorway....facing that trippin odyssey. You can interpret it how you want but what I took from it was people running away from their culture. Needless to say it hit home. Too often we want to be accepted, to follow the trend. The message "don't follow him." Directed by: Wendy Morgan

4. SANTAGOLD "LES ARTISTES"....
BK's own Santagold gives us a look at self-fashioned "artistes" with this effort. The originator of the 'fresh to def artist' look gave us a different look with a video filled with destruction, carnage, and violence in a colorful way and done with fake materials. Directed by Nima Nourizadeh

5. ERYKA BADU 'HONEY'......
Erica shouts out past hip hop cover art in this video. Talk about taking an okay song to the next level. The video is a shot of someone going thorough a music store and looking at old albums in which the covers include her in the remake. It helps to be a fan of hip hop to get the music and image references sprinkled throughout the video but she keeps it entertaining enough with her anticdotes and comedic appeal for anyone to enjoy. The idea is fresh, as you would expect from the hip hop hippie. Directed by Erykah Badu & Mr. Roboto WATCH HERE
6. KANYE 'LOVE LOCKDOWN'.....
Frankly, the song hits it out the park. The only way the video would not have been in the top 8 this year was if he made a homemade video of the ground. The song is infectious and the video imagery just puts you in the mindset and the mood of the song. The video doesn't match the lyrics but it gives you the appropriate vibe. That contrast from semi accapella to heavy hitting base goes with the soft white on white to the tribal references of the video. The drums also goes with a lot of african music, hence the reference. Directed by Simon Henwood.

7. FIEST ' I FEEL IT ALL'....
The video was done in one take. The underrated artist combines pyrotechnics with her sheep like vocals, and manages to paint the images of her lyrics. Directed by Patrick Daughters. WATCH HERE
8. ASHANTI "THE WAY THAT I LOVE YOU"...
CSI or Cops made as a music video is the best way to describe it. I enjoyed the storyline and the unique take on the murder scene as if you're watching it on one of those tv shoes. The most innovative effort (in video) from an RnB artist this year.

Go Girl-Ciara Feat T-Pain
This would definitely make my top 10 for the cinematography, dancing, style and theme. The transformation from a regular girl to a fictitious character known as 'super c.' This was a clever way for Ciara to introduce this character of her Fantasy Ride of an album to come spring 2009. And needless to say her moves are unmatched. Directed by Melina

Solange "Tony"
Short and sweet, but to the point. It develops the story of discovering the fella you had a one night stand with is your baby fatha. Reminds me of Amy Whinehouse's "Rehab" but it has it's own tic. Her best effort from her album currently in stores. Directed by Vashtie.

Beyonce "Single Ladies"
This video has been the craz in the past month because Beyonce puts it down as only she can in this over sexual gyrating with heels spectacle. Despite the Fosse rip off, it's certainly entertaining to watch. Directed by Jake Nova.

TOP 8 ALBUMS OF 2008
1) Sia - "People Have Real Problems." This Australian serves up a saving grace for this year's lackluster collection of albums. A soulful voice, meaningful lyrics, a believable image as oppose to a gimmick, and brilliant songs. The workings of a masterpeice. Just as I crowned Amy Whinehouse the year before her album actually tookoff, I crown this jewel as not only having the best album I've heard this year but the next 'big thing.'
2) Taylor Swift: Fearless...a blond, blue-eyed, amazonian starlet who makes real music. The album screams of a high school girl's diary. Yet her lyrics appeals to the mature in how she conveys. This singer songwriter proved in this album that she's more than just a country singer. As her album proclaims, she's Fearless. She exposes her life and named names. Who can forget her public battle with one of the Jonas Bros. In the lyrics and her ability to 'go there'....there lies the phenom that is the best selling female artist of 2008.
3) Neyo "Year Of The Gentleman"...more like the year of the songwriter. Simply put, this album is the clear alternative to what is lacking in male pop and rnb. He fills this void in Usher's lack of maturity...he provides a how a real man turns on a lady as a contrast to Chris Brown's silly come-ons....and he cleans up the nastiness that is filled in R Kelly's current list of filty music. Basically he's the only option when it comes to music of this genre for those over the age of 25.
4) Coldplay: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. You should know that I'm not a big fan of the group, but the album is dope.
5) Santogold: Santogold. While most are still jaming to MIA's recent single I submit you listen to Satogold instead. Not only does she have the single worthy material, unlike her brit counterpart, she has the talent to match. I like MIA, but just as in the case of Kanye West when you strip down the bull she's kicking garbage and calling it musical art. Santogold on the other had mixes culture with a unique (although not spectacular) voice, insightful lyrics and imagery that is out of this globe.
6) Erica Badu - "Ney Amerykah Part I -So far, this is the year's most certifiably batsh-- record, a labyrinthine mix of chittering beats, rattling bass and gauzy, hazy vibes, and one that jumps through time like Desmond from "Lost" — from the past to the future and back to the present — only to remind us that things have always been as messed up as they are right now. So we get somber '70s soul rolled up into harrowing postmillennial doomsday proclamations, with Badu — part priestess, part transistor radio — hovering above the din, holding the world in the palm of her hand and spinning it faster and faster on its axis. A positively vital record — probably the most important of the year — full of social commentary and smoky quests for spirituality in these troubled times, one full of hope yet also realistic enough to point out that we're probably teetering on the brink of something very bad. Also, proof that you probably don't want to spend the night alone in Badu's head."
7) TV on the Radio: Dear Science..."New Wave hooks and funky dance beats — albeit amid bleak lyrical visions, Afrobeat rhythmic arrangements and densely layered, terabyte-era production."
8) Wayne - Carter III Hey, 1 million Wayne fans can't be wrong, can they? Truth be told, III is really only part of the Weezy phenomenon, one that stretches across mixtapes and message boards and "no he didn't" proclamations and guest spots too numerous to mention, which goes a long way toward explaining just how scattershot it is. But it's also biting, bruising, hilarious and completely confounding, by far the most interesting and compelling hip-hop album released to this point, and probably the only album in history that makes Robin Thicke (who sings on the haunting post-Katrina tune "Tie My Hands

TOP 8 EVENTS/SCANDALS OF 2008
1. America Elects It's First Multiraced President
2. JHud Family Murders
3. Britney's Bad Luck
The pop princess had one of the most scandalous years of all, and it all started on Jan. 3, when the singer was taken to L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and held for psychiatric evaluation. Soon after, she lost visitation rights with her sons and was put under the watchful eye of her father, Jamie, who became her conservator.
4. John Edwards Comes Clean
The former Democratic presidential hopeful admitted in August to a long-rumored affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter. Edwards -- who has been married to wife Elizabeth since 1977 -- said the affair began in 2006 when Elizabeth's now-incurable cancer was in remission. He denied that he was the father of Hunter's baby daughter.
5. Mary-Kate Linked to Ledger's Death
When a masseuse discovered Heath Ledger's body on Jan. 22, she spent nearly 10 minutes making phone calls to Mary-Kate Olsen -- before ever dialing 911. The Olsen twin refused to speak about her involvement, and rumors circulated that she requested immunity. Federal prosecutors decided not to issue a subpoena for her to testify.
6. The Miley Cyrus Shoot
The Disney star caused a media frenzy when she appeared semi-topless in the June 2008issue of Vanity Fair. She even told Us that she was "so embarrassed" by Annie Leibovitz's photos. The news came shortly after Cyrus was criticized by parenting groups after photos showing her in a green bra surfaced online.
7. Madonna Becomes a Yankees Fan
In July, Madonna hosted late-night visits from Yankee player Alex Rodriguez at her apartment in New York City. A-Rod attended the singer's concert, and Madge went to a Yankees game and dressed her son Rocco in the team's shirt. The new relationship preceded the end of Madonna's seven-year marriage to director Guy Ritchie.
8. Jamie Lynn Spears Gives Birth
The teenage sister of Britney gave birth on June 19 to daughter Maddie. Jamie Lynn announced she was expecting a baby when she was only 16 years old. She and her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge, got engaged a few months later.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
The Divorce Heard Round the World
Christie Brinkley and ex-husband Peter Cook. On the very first day of the bitter public trial, Cook and his former assistant, Diana Bianchi, detailed their affair. He recalled how he frequently had sex with Bianchi, then 18, paid her to presumably keep quiet and spent $3,000 monthly on web porn.
A Topless Tryst
Sienna Miller and the still-married Balthazar Getty got cozy on a boat in Positano, Italy, on July 12. When the photos leaked of a topless Miller kissing Getty, he announced he and his wife -- with whom he has four children -- had separated. Miller also took action, by suing the photo agencies for violating her privacy.
Anne Hathaway's Bad Boyfriend
Anne Hathaway's longtime boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, was taken into police custody in early April after allegedly bouncing a $215,000 check. The star split with the Italian real estate developer, whom she said was "the love of my life," just hours before his arrest on charges of wire fraud and money laundering.
To Drink or to Drive
Before the Transformers star was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a car crash on July 27, LaBeouf spoke out against drunk driving and opened up about his struggles with alcohol in Details. "I don't know how to have one drink," he said. LaBeouf -- who injured his hand in the accident -- was never charged.

CIARA JACKS BEYONCE'S 'DIVA'
Clearl;y Ci don't give a wha...cause she know the hate gone come by "covering" Beyonce's "Diva." Good job at getting the haters worked up Ci. The jawn is nice. B's vocals kills but Ci's flow, especially in the 2nd verse is fire. It's cute and she gave B her props.
“I know you know about that diva diva named B. While I’m at it, I’mma tell ya ’bout this diva named C,” Ciara sings over the female hustler’s anthem.
So now that we know the song wasn't to go at B, after a close listen she clearly addresses haters who try to put out negative rumors about her not owning her car and getting her car taken away by 5th. Okay so I must admit I may have furthered those rumors but Ci makes it clear she makes her own money and buys her own cars.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: "I Do Not Have An Alter Ego"
CIARA has enlisted the help of a superhero for her forthcoming album FANTASY RIDE - after creating her own comic book character, SUPA C. The Goodies hitmaker, 23, is working with DC Comics to create the cover artwork for the album, inspired by the comic book classics she read as a kid. But she's warned fans not to confuse her with the animated action figure. She tells WENN, "Supa C is not my alter ego. Supa C is the star of my comic book and a big part of my album artwork. I have always been a huge fan of comic book illustrations as well as action super heroes, especially Batman and Spider-Man. "Creating my own comic book and character has always been something I've dreamed of doing." Fantasy Ride is set for release next year (09).

JORDAN SPARKS LEAVES MANAGEMENT....and remains a virgin while doing so
The American Idol finalists are on the move! Kristy Lee Cook and Blake Lewis made record label moves and now season six American Idol champion, Jordin Sparks is doing it to. “Jordin and 19 Management are parting ways,” Jordin Sparks’ mom Jodi wrote this month on her daughter’s MySpace blog. “It is a mutual decision and we are looking forward to the future!”
Jordin Sparks has only been with 19 Records/Jive records since May of 2007 and only released one record with the label.
Jordin Sparks’ mother wrote on the blog that Jordin is working on her second album. “Jordin (is) writing and recording starting in January,” wrote Jodi on the MySpace blog. “Hopefully new album out by summer. Expect more upbeat dance tunes!”
Why does everyone want to make dance music all of a sudden. Stay in ya lane snitches.
AKEYS CLAIMS BILLBOARD'S #1
First they honor Ciara as Woman of the year
Then they honor Chris Brown as Artist of the year
Now Billboard names Alicia Keys as having the Album of the year?
So how did Keys come out on top? The Billboard chart year strongly favored Keys. The chart year began the very week that As I Am hit the chart, with impressive first-week sales of 742,000 copies. That "start date" cut off the first five weeks of Noel's sales, a period in which it sold 379,000 copies. Groban was also hurt on the back end. In the four most recent weeks (including this week), which are not counted in the year-end tally, a seasonally-reinvigorated Noel has sold 509,000 copies, compared to just 21,000 copies for an out-of-gas As I Am. Noel's uncounted sales on either the front end or the back end are more than enough to offset As I Am's 144,000-copy lead during Billboard's official chart year. (If the chart year had started and ended one week later than it did, Groban would have beat Keys handily. His total would have been 3,341,000 copies, to her 2,892,000 copies.)
Billboard didn't deliberately favor Keys: The 2008 chart year adheres to the magazine's usual practice. Why, you may wonder, doesn't Billboard's year-end issue just conform to the calendar year? It's a matter of production logistics. The year-end issue is typically the magazine's biggest issue of the year (this year's edition runs 178 pages). The staff needs the extra time to assemble the issue and, not least of all, sell ads.
The magazine's 2008 chart year runs from Dec. 1, 2007 through Nov. 29, 2008. And in that period, As I Am sold more copies than Noel, which finished at #2 (not to mention Tha Carter III, which ranked #3 on Billboard's recap.
KIMMY K IS BETTER THAN YOU
Doing her part to help out, Kim Kardashian was busy giving back to the community for the holidays on Wednesday afternoon (December 17).
The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" starlet teamed up with designer Christian Audigier to visit Amino Locke 2 High School in Compton to gift the honor students with Ed Hardy skateboards and goody bags.

MOVIE TRAILOR
This is Beyonce's latest "movie." Is this suppose to be a comedy?
Now this "Madea Goes To Jail," I'm sure my mom will be there opening weekend...a movie in which the actors don't appear to be reading the script.
NOTABLE AND QUOTABLE
[On the reason why she was dropped]:
“It was a budget cut, I believe. [Def Jam] probably got rid of projects like mine to spend the money on [Rihanna].”
[On who inspired her to get back into music] “I bumped into Janet Jackson at a club. We talked for an hour and I was telling her I don’t know if I’m gonna do this, and she was like, ‘Girl, do not let them stop you. I’m a fan and you make good music.’ She’s a person I actually looked up to growing up, so her telling me that really was the day I was like, ‘I’m not gonna let these people hold me down. It’s time.’”
[On Nick Cannon marrying Mariah Carey]
“I was surprised like everyone else. I was like, ‘Really?’ It just seemed like a weird match, but I was happy for him. I always feel Nick works hard to get what he wants, whether that be women—that’s how he got me.”
*****Dang some people are really mad at Rihanna these days.

50 CENT AND CIARA AT "THE WRESTLER" PREMIERE
These bamas are a hot mess. So the 2 did the red carpet (off course not together). They hit up Mr. Chows for dinner with 50 exiting the front and Ci exiting the back. **shakes my head** Could this be a step towards them coming out. Hope so.
This chick looks different everytime I see her. One day she looks like Wanda Sykes, the next day like MC Lyte, other days like a regular round a way girl, later that month like a high fashion model, and today....of asian descent. She has way too much 'natural' makeup on but I like the pants.
